I live and work in Papua New Guinea with the Hewa tribe. They were kind enough to share some tobacco seeds with me. Here's just a few pics of what's come up so far.

Not too sure. I really don't know much about processing yet. We are out of the tribe for 6 weeks for a break...well, to get taxes done, conferences, doctor's appts, etc. So, I hope I can research some and try to figure out a little bit.

I was given some leaves a couple months ago and just dried them for a few weeks and then rolled a couple cigars with them and then let them sit a couple weeks more. They were actually pretty good. Though it had been nearly 2 years since I had a cigar so that Hewa tobacco gave me a really good kick in the rear, ha.

Anywho, it's good to be back for a bit and catch up. Looks like you guys have really been producing some great pipes lately. The PITH trade looked excellent...some really nice stuff. I really miss making pipes.

Nice ! From the little I know, I'd guess some type of Burley. I imagine if you can find a good way to cure and process them, you may end up with a higher quality product than the locals smoke even though the seed is the same.
If you search here, there was a post last year from pierredekat who lives in mexico now. He toasted some burley with vanilla extract in a frying pan and said he came out with a pretty decent smoke, something similar to a good quality 1Q blend.
