Newbie, Just wanted say hi

Post by millerman »

Well I've been looking at this great site for awhile. I have only been attempting to make pipes for a few months, so I'm thirsty for any and all information I can grab from yall and this site. Just wanted say Hi.

Glad to have you on board Millerman

two things you need to remember on this board:

don't pay attention to the idiots

and

they are all idiots, but especially Sas

rev
"but rev, isn't smoking a sin?"

well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

"but what would be smoking to excess?"

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

Welcome miller,

It is customary to distribute a bowl of tobacco to everyone who responds but since Red got a little agressive early we may let it slide.

Welcome! Red is from Oklahoma, you must understand, so I don't think his behavior really needs explaining...

Ha! I'm not a native Oklahoman so I'm off the hook. I was crapped on a rock and hatched in the great state of Missouri. And don't say anything nasty or I'll sic Scotties on you. She'll be getting real mean about now in her delicate condition. :P

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm sure I will probably bore yall with a lot of novice looking junk. I'm working on one at the moment ( just started it this morning ). And I've gotten my first commission pipe a few days ago. So as I'll be getting that underway soon too. I know this may not be the right thread to ask this, but if anyone could point me to a good thread or explain to me how to add a metal band between the shank and stem I would appreciate it. Again thanks fer the welcome especially Red, who wants to see my stuff! Also a special thanks to the Rev who helped me get on this site.

Wee! Looks like you're getting complicated quickly. Read through "Alternative Materials" and "Finishing Techniques." I think there are some threads in there concerning this.

Personally, I'd recommend sticking to just briar and preforms for a while. Keep it simple.

I was interested in the metal extension rings. Could you turn a shoulder on an extension adapter then turn a piece of say stainless steel the same diameter loctite it together and be done with it?
