I use Nicholson pillar files off eBay or McMaster, actually. What you want is a pillar file that's wide enough so it won't dig in, but narrow enough to work in small areas. I think mine are right around 3/8"-1/2" wide. The only Grobet files I use are the crossing and pippin files. I'd recommend searching the forum for discussions about files. They're a great tool in the pipe maker's tool box.

Thank you so much! I’ve used files from the beginning, but not a smooth faced file now I need to go shopping.that will help. I feel like I need to send a tuition check somewhere.
