M3 metal blanks for stem inlays

Anyone have any experience with these? I tried using the nickel silver one. It supposedly can be polished to look like silver. I found that it looks okay, but definitely not like a good silver colored metal. It has a little bit of a generic, cheap look to it. Are all of them like this? Maybe it would be better to just use stainless steel rod.
