2nd Annual Pipe Makers Forum Midwest Meetup

Post by PremalChheda »

Hello Friends,

I would like to offer to host this grand event in my workshop this year, but if someone else would like to instead I will make the effort to help plan and attend. Sometime in March would work for me if I am hosting it. You do not have to be located in the Midwest Area. Everyone is invited. Last year we had a great turnout and we made two pipes. One was donated to the Chicago Pipe Show Silent Auction and another was auctioned and the proceeds were donated to Pipemakersforum.com

Last year's attendies included: Micah Redmond, Michael Eady, Jason Cochey, David Huber, Nate King, Tim West, Chuck Sands, Bill Shalosky, Premal Chheda, and Abe Herbaugh.

If you are interested in attending or hosting, please post here.

Update: 03/13/2014

This Grand Event Will be held on March 29th & 30th of 2014

All pipemakers are invited for the event no matter where you are. Please call me if you would like to make arrangements to sell your pipes at the Saturday show. If you do not wish to offer your pipes for sale during the Saturday show, you are still very welcome to attend, and I will include you in the announcements, but it is very important that you not try to show and sell your pipes to customers that attend the show on Saturday due to state tax laws and other factors. The Sunday meetup will be catered, but there can be no alcohol since we may be using machinery. A waiver will have to be signed by anyone that wishes to participate in making a pipe and use machinery. Hotels in the area run about $75 per night.
Saturday evening, I will host dinner and drinks for all of the pipemakers. If you have a guest with you, please let me know, so I can make proper reservations.
If you would like to come for either Saturday or Sunday only, you are still most welcome for either day. Please let us know if you will be only attending for one day or both.

Use of equipment and access to the workshop without supervision will be limited to those that I know and trust. If I do not know you yet, you still got a few months. Give me a call.

I will be advertising for the event, and getting the word out. Tim West May be able to bring pipe making supplies to the show for sale and if you need anything, please contact me.

Drew Estate & Smokers' Haven will be sponsoring the Saturday Event, and there will be specials on Pipe Tobacco and Cigars and a free raffle.

Vermont Freehand & Chheda Pipes will be sponsoring the Sunday Meetup and there will be a goodie bag for all registered pipe makers.

Please try to confirm by January 30th and get a hold of me at the shop or my cell.

Is it going to be a weekend event? If it's on a Saturday or Sunday, I'm pretty iffy. Any other day and I should be able to make it.

If I am hosting it, it has to be on a Sat/Sun, and due to most work schedules, I think that is our best bet.

I might possibly make it. It's a ways out, so I'll have time to plan.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I'll be there. Somebody has to represent the dirty South.

That's what I figured. I'll see what I can do once you decide on a date.

I'll be in if Premal let's me, I tend to be a black cloud over his machinery at times when I'm in the shop. Maybe even convince my fellow Pittsburgher Harry aka Big Casino to leave his cave for a day.

Premal, do you think you'll be able to pressure Thomas James into attending this year? I haven't seen that guy in a few years now.

If I am hosting it, everyone is welcome. There will be just a few people in charge of operations that are already familiar with my equipment. Probably, Bill, Nate, Micah Redmond, Ryan Alden (if he can make it) Abe (if he can make it) and Thomas (if he can make it). Everyone else will participate in some way and be welcome to view if that is all they want to do. Last year, I did a show on Saturday, and Sunday was the pipemaking day with catered food. I will start making a list of people attending soon after we establish a firm date.

Ever had a repairman at that event? If not, would you want one?
