Word of caution

Post by dreadroberts »

I know everyone here is careful, and I thought that I was too... Three short years of wood working experience and I made a stupid mistake. I was working on a non-pipe related project, a pen, and I needed to disassemble the pen for a little tweaking. I grabbed the nearest object that would fit into the barrel of the pen and "disassembled" the pen. And my hand.... severed both tendons in my little finger with a very sharp parting chisel. It happened in the blink of an eye. Surgery and 12 weeks of physical therapy required. Be careful even when you think that you are.

I hope you heal soon man, that sounds REALLY painful. Thanks for the reminder!

Cheers!

Thanks for the well wishes. I did manage to finish my 3rd pipe. I've now upturned my wood shop looking for another suitable chunk of wood to practice on. This hobby is a ton of fun.

Ouch! Hope it heals up properly.

I've still got a nice scar in my left hand from a stupid slip with a paring chisel, though thank heaven I missed all my tenons.

Dude! There's a big difference between tenons and tendons.
