I'm not totally pleased with the results I achieved, but I thoroughly enjoyed the task. I have quite a bit more tobacco left that I've been aging and I'm hoping to try another batch before going back to the tribe. I think tomorrow if I have the time I am going to flavor this batch just a bit.

After two hours or so...

Fished. 5 hours of steaming...wish I would have done more like 7 or 8, but I was too stinking tired to stay awake any longer and didn't want to burn down the house.

Smoked a small bowl last night and it was surprisingly pretty good. I was really pleased with how well it burned.

Nice. Is there anything familiar about the taste, or is it pretty much on par for unflavored tobac?

Par. It's just an even mellow smoke.

Sounds like a good name for your blend. "Par 4, for that even, mellow smoke".
Maybe you add some vanilla for the Par 5, a little bourbon for the Par 3. :D

Black rum to another batch, and call it the 19th Hole.

How was the odor while steaming? I was always afraid that it would stink up the house.

The smell wasn't too bad. It was a lot like a really, really strong tea. But the apartment that we are in here in PNG for the week is really open.

What strain of tobacco is that? I grew a few plants of some cherry red Virginia this past summer. It was my second attempt at growing tobacco. After curing I just rolled the leaves up real tight and packed them into mason jars, and vacum sealed. I smoke it straight and it's quite good. I have one unopened jar left and I'm going to age a few years to see what happens.

I have no clue what strain this is. I live in a really remote village in PNG and just grew some of whatever the people were already growing.
