I guess this is a shop pipe

Post by Literaryworkshop »

I was doing some filing on this pipe when I happened to hold it up to the light just right. I hadn't gone through the wall of the tobacco chamber, but I had come darn close. I could see light through the wall.

Just for kicks (and since I'm snowed in anyway) I went ahead and sanded and finished the pipe, leaving the thin part just a bit rough. I'm afraid that it would burn out pretty quickly if smoked.

It will go on my shelf in my office, I think. I have the first pipe I ever made sitting there, and every once in a while, somebody sees it and asks me to make them one. Now I can stash that first pipe in a drawer and have a slightly nicer one on display. So it might not be a total loss.

3 or 4 layers of thick bowl coating and you will be able to smoke it no problem I reckon, I have a shop pipe that was very similar, patched it over and it smokes great.

I've been very happy with the recipe of cigar ash and water, recommended on a thread somewhere on here.

I was working on a big, Cherrywood Dublin. It was really going GREAT, and then the same thing happened to me. As it was cherry, I trashed it but the hours gone!

Maybe I should have kept it, but given my lack of talent I have plenty of "shop" pipes now!

Have you seen Rad's JB Weld repair. I think it would work well here.

Everyone owes it to themselves to see it either way so do yourselves a favor and find it in the archives.

Shop pipe?

Looks like a captured neutron star to me. Or maybe a Higgs-Boson particle. Has anyone called FermiLab or the Nobel selection committee?

So there's a way to patch this thing? I wouldn't try to sell it, but I'd be delighted if it turned out to be usable.

I'll go digging in the archives, I guess.

JB Weld? Really? I'm nearly tempted... :?

So, back to some of the earlier responses here, is this thing actually repairable? One person mentioned ash and water. Details? What other bowl coating materials might work?

Don't be messing with a novice pipe maker, now. I'm liable to try just about anything you guys suggest.

I'm curious about the JB Weld repair also... if you try it or have already done it, i would love to see a pic as well as know if it works. Although I would not sell it consodering I'm a hobbyist an not a salesman. Hobbyist can sell thier but I dont believe its being a hobbyist if your ripping ppl off or even making much a profit after supplies cost.. anyways. I'm curious of the outcome.
