it took me a very long time to get to this point. although I am not happy with the pipe I am happy with my progress. making the button on the stem comfortable is very hard to do.

Yeah it is. It takes a few tries to make it decent, and it's like 7 hours to do a stem the first few times. Feels hopeless, but it does get easier with practice.

So you've got your basics down - you fit a stem to a stummel, now it's all just refinements until you are happy with the product, which for many of us is never.
