Has anyone ever made a segmented pipe? Was wondering how that would work

I'm not sure I follow what you're asking. Can you be more specific? Do you mean a pipe with multiple sections that can be disassembled and reassembled? What would the benefit of such a design be?

No, I'm talking from a wood turners prospective. I make pens, and bowls etc that have several different pieces of different type, and or color of woods glued to make up a single blank, or block. Then it's turned down to create whatever it is you're making. Just wondering if that was ever done for making a pipe?
I'm only a few weeks into this pipe making adventure, just thinking of other ways of doing stuff

You wouldn't want to smoke anything along a glue line for one thing.
Also, with the small surface areas of a pipe, gluing two faces together is not sufficient. You almost always need a mechanical joint to hold two pieces together, some type of mortise and tenon joint.

I understand what you're saying about the glue , however the surface area would really not factor in because your gluing up a solid block, and turning the pipe from that.

Check out Steven Downie's stuff online. He has made calabash pipes with segmented wood like that the n either a briar or meerschaum insert for the actual smoking.

If you were going to do something like this for a more traditionally shaped pipe, at the very least you would want the tobacco chamber lined with briar or meerschaum or some other proven smoking material. I would think, though, that the expanding and contracting from heating and cooling of a pipe would be problematic over time with any material that has a glue joint.

Interesting looks for some, others not so much. I wonder what glue/adhesive they use to prevent delamination?
