Thanks for posting George. A lot of talent in that room. I've met an number of them and I wish I could have been there to meet the rest.

Indeed there was. Though mere whippersnappers  , several of them already have national class technical skills, and all but the true (relative) beginners weren't nearly as far behind as their experience would suggest. Someone has been teaching these kids and teaching them well.

As for imagination and design originality, I saw one specimen in particular that was easily among the best pipes I've ever seen in my life, and a number of others that were noteworthy.

The Internet and youth have recently converged in a way that makes me think the next ten years won't just be exciting, but known to future PipeWorld historians as the second Golden Age.

What a fine looking bunch of chaps there! An intimidating amount of talent in that shot and those are just the ones I can recognise.

Jesper Klith thinks I'm the worlds biggest pipemaker. If I can conclusively prove it, I'm totally putting that on my card.

Someone said, "Hurry up and get in a shot!" after I took a few, so I just zipped across the room and knelt on the only open patch of floor. Way in front of the focal plane of everyone else. Then, I leaned forward so as not to potentially block the face of someone behind me...

Result? I look like a creepy, giant-sized guy with a balloon head.

Now I remember why I hate cameras. Looking natural is impossible, and I'm ugly enough as-is.
