Stainless steel tubing for Bamboo stems

Post by NvilleDave »

Hey guys,
Tyler's tutorial for doing bamboo stems talks about using 5/32" stainless steel tubing. I've only been able to find 3/16", 1/4" and one place had some 1/8" but I haven't found 5/32" carbon steel or stainless steel.

Does anyone have a source for 5/32" stainless tubing? Maybe a metric equivelant?

Thanks and best,
Dave

You can find 5/32" OD tubing in both brass and SS at http://www.mcmaster.com. There are various other places to look as well. I don't personally use this size though. I typically drill my draught holes to 5/32", so tubing with this as the OD would constrict the airflow. Try looking for some thing with 3/16" OD and 5/32" ID for consistent airway sizes.

I get all my stainless steel (and delrin, and steel barstock, and brass, and copper....) from these guys:
http://www.onlinemetals.com

They carry stainless tobing with 1/4" OD. The ID can be had in .12", .18", or .152". I usually go for .18" ID so that I can pass a drill bit through to clean up the epoxy. but .152" can be used if you're careful.

FYI, this site had an extremely easy to use ordering process. In case anyone else had as much trouble with some other sites as I have.
