Another attempt - Needs help

Excuse the pics, but not the pipe. Critique liberally.

Still trying to get my Danish going. I like the stummel, but not crazy about the stem. Needs something to make it work better, but at this point I'm not far enough along to figure out a good fix to complete it. Your help needed!!

BTW, to those of you who commented on my first effort, know that your were heard and I made fixes to the shank and stem (I'll post pics shortly).

Looks like your finish could use some work. Try working through the grits pretty well, not making big jumps in between. Also, the stem seems to be coming out at just a slightly different angle than the shank flows. If I am seeing that correctly that would mean the mortise was misdrilled. Because of that it makes the bowl look like it dips down. I'm an idiot though so it would be wise to wait and hear from guys who know what they are talking about.

For your next pipe, do work on the finish. But for the shape, pick a nice pipe and try to make yours as close to the pipe as you can. This shape is too amorphous to critique. If you set yourself a concrete goal, it's easier to tell if you've hit it or not.

Good feedback, guys.

I'll be doing a refinish and posting a pic following some more feedback.

Not sure I can do much with the mortise at this point, in the absence of trimming down the shank. Your point's well taken.

Thanks.

Guys,

No use getting good advice and not acting on it.

I redid the finish (and took a few crappy pics of the result) and hopefully got a better result.

I'm still trying to figure out a better way to go with the stem.

Thanks for the input.
