Re: First Pipe Questions
Great to know about the sand-paper-wrapped-dowel trick. Hadn't occured to me at all, and I think that will help me out greatly when it comes to finishing off the transition! I currently do have a round file for shaping. Though it's cheap and nowhere near the quality I would buy in the future, it's m...

Re: First Pipe Questions
Thanks for the advice! I do have a round file that moves a decent amount of briar, but I was wondering if it would be better to use a triangle for the shank/stummel junction? Don't have one and have never used on yet, but thought it might give a cleaner/sharper look. Thoughts? My current 4-in-1 isn'...

Re: Ryobi 6" Bench Grinder
You can use a drill press for buffing? That's a brilliant idea that I wouldn't have ever come accross.caskwith wrote:Go with a cheap drill press, that's what I use. Plenty of power, easy speed change when you need it and the chuck means you can attach all manner of accessories.

Re: Ryobi 6" Bench Grinder
While that is not something I wanted to hear, I definitely appreciate your experience on that. I was hoping I could get away with using one "motor" to do all the things I need. Sounds like that was just a dream. At least for this inexpensive one. PS- Those suede blasted pipes of yours look...

Re: Ryobi 6" Bench Grinder
That'll be a DIY project I'll have to undertake if I feel it necessary then. Otherwise I might just pick up a disc sander.
Any set of instructions you followed when you converted your own? Or did you just have the know-how to do it?

Re: First Pipe Questions
Good to know. I've taken the block from start down to what the second pic is with just the rasp. Took me forever!
The coarsest grit I have at the moment is 150, so I'll see if I can pick up rougher stuff soon.
Thanks!
Any thoughts on the shape of the shank?

Ryobi 6" Bench Grinder
Just wondering if anyone has ever had this bench grinder and used it for pipe related purposes? Picked it up over xmas, and I do believe I should be able to use it for waxing/buffering purposes. Not 100% on that yet though. http://hdsupplysolutions.com/shop/product-ryobi_6_bench_grinder-145121 Mine ...

First Pipe Questions
Hello everyone! I'm working on my fist pipe kit that my wonderful SWMBO picked up for me this past xmas. I've been at it for a couple months with a Nicholson 4-in-1 file/rasp that I got for about 9 dollars. I'm aiming to get a sanding disc in the future, but for now it's all sanding by hand. Anyway,...
