Stay safe brother. Bummed that I never made the time to make the trip a few hours to north to visit you while you where here. Going to have to meet you when you get back in three years.
Really like the finish, it hides the flaws really well and still looks great. Agree about the shank cap but still came out great, did you smoke it or is that a bowl coating?
Looks great stem looks great. Want to try olive wood pipe soon looks like a fun material. I use sandpaper wrapped around a needle file to do the transition.
Thanks guys , I posted it at $90 figuring I could price drop after a few days and some one bought it with in a few minutes. Can't wait to start on the next one. Do you think I should stick to billiards for a few more pipes or try another traditional shape such as pot or brandy.
Do guys think it is ok to sell with all these flaws, I was thinking around $80 dollars since it it hand cut cumberland and the flaws are cosmetic but I may be shooting my self in the foot if I over charge for something others might view for unacceptable.
Thanks guys. I have a problem where when I'm done with the files you'll have the meat left and the shank bowl junction that the files can't get to and you have to wrap some sand paper around a needle file to get to I end up bring it in just a wee bit from the lines on the side of the shank. Did it o...
This is my 4th hand cut stem , pipe number 13 and billiard number 2. Was going for a bing Crosby esque billiard with a oval stem. Don't think it came out too bad , has a few pits unfortunately. It came in block form as a pre-drill kit from a trade with a brother here. Only power tool used was a drem...
I'd gladly trade knives for kit again. I have the tools in the family to progress further. My grandad in law lives about 30 miles away and has lathes , drill presses, belt sanders and all that fun stuff. Problem is he doesn't use it much and a lot of it is in varying states of decay. He has two lath...
Thanks ! It's a labor of love and will keep doing it as long as I can make enough or trade to get the next project. As much as I would like to quit my day job and make a living with my hands , that isn't in the stars as of now. Need to make a trip up to jackson and meet you one day at the jacks pipe...
Probably around as many pipes I have made , so about ten each. Still using knife blanks then putting the handles on and doing the pipes from kits. Biggest piece of machinery I have is a dremel as of now so most of my work is still done with files and sand paper. My pops has a lot of space and lives ...
Have a damascus hidden tang hunting knife that I would like to trade for a pipe kit. It is about 10 inches long with a 4 1/2 cutting edge. Blade blank of this knife is made of 512 layers of 1095 and 15N20 high carbon steel. Handle is black and red stablized maple burl with a white fiber spacer. I'm ...
