Maybe i will polish it just to see how it looks, colour looks nice. To tran...

Re: Precarbonizing a bowl
Similar question, but for the outside surface of the bowl. I have seen and done, torching the surface of the wood furniture before clear coating it. Apparently its a Japanese technique called Shou-sugi-ban or Yakasugi somenthing. Its a interesting finish, anybody tried that? I searched extensively b...

Black Locust. http://www.dodaj.rs/f/2I/w6/4YjYwZK6/pipe-start.jpg A for the shape, i really wanted to heed an advice given by a senior member, and make a billiard, but it kind of spun out of control when i started, so now its...

Re: Answer this, if you please
When the gov. start to rub you wrong way, outsource, its how the big guns do it. What is stopping somebody with a pipe business to move from US to some more perspective country, in some countries you even get money to move your production there. With 250K$ you can open a factory in some countries. F...

Re: Answer this, if you please
Sasha that people would still smoke briar pipes in 3000 years from now indicates one other thing, and that is sustainable and profitable business, because traditionalists are in fact good customers. And on the other part, nobody making a business plan involving manufacture and small scale production...

Re: The Smoking Yeti
You are also a criminal. Smoking at 17! Kids these days... Actually that is a misconception, because tobacco laws forbid selling tobacco products to minors, not actually forbidding smoking to them. As it is with alcohol, its not allowed to sell or serve it to them, but that does not mean that they ...

Re: My first shot at pipemaking
I don't mind the comedy, i find it amusing. It takes a lot more, to enrage me. As for calling me names and such, you ought to have heard my wood supplier when i asked from him to get me briar, that was something, that man has a range of curses containing my name that is unending. I still owe him mon...

Re: My first shot at pipemaking
Red is a cooler name, and besides, try going to Romania, with my surname, everywhere i checked in or out, from airport to hotels, i got weird looks from people. Apparently my surname, Sakrin, means burial casket in their language. I half expected to wake up one morning and stumble across some bad lu...

@ Red Hell NO, its a pice off junk wood, and kind off saying hello to the forum. Gauging my starting point, as from very bad to bad-ish. LOL Yes, woodchips and sawdust can be used as sanding and or polishing abrasives, depending on granulation, it gives average and slightly above average results on ...

Re: My first shot at pipemaking
Jesus ain't helping at all. :-) As for taking of more material, probably i should have, because its a massive thing, the bowl is just below 75mm in diameter. Its a complete freehand made on the sanding machine. I'm going to practice a while longer with some other blocks and eventually make the thing...
