Re: My latest pipe
I see what you are saying about the stem thickness. i think it is just the angle of the picture and the lighting, but ill check.

My latest pipe #21
I've been away for while and have been making pipes, but I'm back at it now. This is my latest pipe, hope you enjoy http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160927/4f94c5a62cb3f4ea2fd5afeeaced9293.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160927/5d4fc4866907659345421062d75beb36.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn....

Shaping tools
I was wondering if anyone here regularly uses something other than a sanding disk for initial shaping? I was researching alex florovs work and read that he primarily uses chisels for shaping. I just wanted to get a little insight into some other good tools for shaping more ornate pieces.

19 & 20
Haven't posted in a while, but here are my last 2 pipes. #19A bent egg with maple burl, and#20 a Dublin. These aren't quite detailed enough pictures for a good critique, I just wanted to show what I've been working on lately. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160513/486d9156915c2d2e2b8dfcc3b8f3a72a....

Boxwood
What type of boxwood is typically used for accents on pipes, and does anyone know a good place to get it?

Re: Bamboo
What I was planning on doing was using the stainless steel at the junction of the stummel and bamboo extension, but I wasn't sure if it was necessary to line the rest of the bamboo. I have been told that if Buddha belly is left without a liner it will crack, but I wasn't sure about the bamboo root S...
Bamboo
I was wondering if all bamboo needs to be lined throughout the entire length of the shank or is it just the Buddha belly

Re: #16 oval shanked anse
Thanks for the tips. So I need to taper the stem more horizontally? I think the size of this one kind of got me too. the block I used to make this was so small that it wouldn't fit in my lathe chuck, probably because I made it myself, so I had to shape it all and the sanding disk it was pretty tough...

Re: #16 oval shanked anse
I was going a little more for the eltang interpretation as opposed to the movie pipe (also why I went with the oval shank). I wanted a smaller bowled and all around smsller slimmer look. I'm not really a big fan of the squatty ones

Home made lathe chuck
I've been needing some tower jaws for doing some turned pipes, so far I've been doing the all freehand, so I went ahead and made these jaws. I just have to get some set screws for the centering pins and I'll be able to test em tonight http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160127/d109134bde92d01323472115...
