They vary from brand to brand. One 9mm filter will fit snug, another won't even go in. It's really freaking annoying, and one of many reasons I don't do 9mm filter pipe orders.

Mostly it's just in the math. I make maybe 2-3 LB churchwardens a year that use those stems and I'm cutting even that down because I hate making churchwardens, and I'm 56, so... 1000 stems would last me for the next 500 years.

They're all drilled. Clean-up varies from model to model, with some just needing a light sanding and compounding while others need flashing removed, heavy sanding, etc.
