Re: Process Shots, Boring Pipe
Awesome, thanks for that. I think I will start doing my stems like that. Makes a lot of sense to me.

Re: Process Shots, Boring Pipe
Great looking pipe, love the finish. One thing that grabbed my attention. After you had the stem fitted to the shank you said you then cut it to length. I assume you use a tapered bit when drilling then finish it off with 1/16? So I assume you stop drilling with the taper around an 3/4 of an inch th...

Re: Pipe #15. Pencil Shank Billiard.
I am certainly no expert but a rule of thumb I try to go by that Doc told me is that the front of the stummel should essentially match the back. In the case of your pipe I would have removed material from the shank stummel junction to match the curve on the back. Something that has stuck with me is ...

Thank you, glad to know the shape is at least ok. I will work on slimming my stems down more. Thanks again.

Re: Selling your first pipe
I have just recently started selling some pipes. Basically it came to the point that if I wanted to keep making them I had to at least try to cover the materials. (wife orders...) So I sell for around $35-65 shipped depending on the pipe. I am clear with all of the buyers that I am a fairly new pipe...

Re: Pre mold stem question
That's kind of what I thought regarding wood lathes. I plan to work on a clamping device to use until I switch exclusivity to rod stock. Thank you for all of the help. I appreciate it.

Re: Pre mold stem question
That video is great thank you. I do have a wood lathe, it would be doable on one but not nearly as good as a metal one. Do you think it is easier to do it on a wood lathe or stick with delrin? I plan to start making stems from rod stock all the time, i just haven't made them up to par quite yet.... ...

Re: Pre mold stem question
Thank you and that is an amazing device but a bit out of my budget at the moment. I may try to rig something similar up out of wood for a temporary solution.

Pre mold stem question
For those of you that use pre mold stems and add a delrin tenon. What sort of device do you use to hold the stem when drilling it? Thanks.

Re: Second attempt at bent billiard
Thank you for your input I really appreciate it. Hopefully he will draw me some lines to give me some more perspective. I took another picture of the bowl rim because the previous picture was awful and I think made it look worse than it is. Although my rustication certainly lowers one side a smidge....

Thank you for the critique. That makes complete sense about taking too much from the bottom of the shank. I appreciate the help.

Re: First attempt at bent billiard
Thank you for your critique. The chin is honestly what bothers me most about this pipe. But now I notice the stem and bowl side issue since you point it out. I have learned a lot on this one and hopefully will improve on my next one.
Thank you,
Thank you,
