Re: brass on shank
I think it has a pretty refined, old-worldy sort of respectable look to it. I'd smoke this one during events that have serious tones, like theological debates or philosophy bouts. Or when reading a serious book. Nice pipe.

Re: Tamper on the Cheap
Just finished this one today. Made from standard Ikea type furniture bolt. Maybe 3 hours to bang, grind and polish. Pretty neat, eh?

Tamper on the Cheap
Found a 7" aluminum spike nail in my yard. Banged on it with a hammer, took a grinder and some sandpaper to it. Filed it a bit. Polished and...awesome. The photos don't do it justice. I'm gonna make a boatload of these.

Thank you all for the tips. joe, I think right about not moving the tail stock, when my tail stoke is not clamped down it has side to side play. Jeremiah. What hand tools are you facing with? Pooka. Is a chamfer the same as counter sinking the mortis? Thanks again!!' Yep. Countersink. Because I can...

Chamfer the tenon/mortise? I usually fail to get a good match-up until I put at least a decent dip in the mortise.

So I'm going back through my posts and realize none of my other pipes exist here. Oh, well. Maybe I can pretend this is my FIRST pipe and get lots of wows. Haha.

10th Pooka Pipe
I haven't posted a pipe in so long... So here's one I finished in a week. Well, mostly finished. The stem needs some more sanding at the tip. It's my second From Scratch pipe with hand-cut stem and everything. FAT STUBBY! It's 4.5" long, 2" high, Bowl is 2.5" diameter, Stem shank is 2...

Looks like a rock or something. I like it. Like a genuine cowpoke sort of rawhide and dust sort of smoker. I'd take that out into the desert with me. And I think Louis L'Amour would agree.
Really big-looking chamber though. Is it gonna survive?

I'm guessing you didn't want to see all that pretty grain and birdseye go to waste. But sorta unweildy. I'd keep it for the purty grain though.

Re: Alpha Omega pipe???
I've been trolling online lately keeping an eye out for estate pipes at a deal. Ordered one tonight that simply has "Alpha and Omega" on the shank and some symbol on the stem but the pics were sub par so I couldn't make it out. Any of you know of such a brand or model? I know some have &q...
