For what it's worth, I don't think this is a "thin" shank. It looks aesthetically accurate for the pipe. If the shank were longer, then I think you might should have gone a bit thicker with a greater taper, but given the shorter length of the shank, I think it looks well balanced.

So, for what I am able to critique based off of your photos, here's what I got. Rustication is pretty ok. Reminds me of a Savinelli Roma. It would greatly benefit from a finish. Try a heavily thinned shellac mix on rustication. Say 70/20 with denatured alcohol. I like to use on of those little craft...
