Thin, well diluted layer, apply with a brush (no matter if it's a cheap one) and then *wipe it away*. This is important. As Kurt said, the thing is that shellac is not *the* finish. I use a Dremel and a nylon brush (I think is this one, number #403) and it works wonderfully.

Please do yourself a favor and try making a traditional pipe. Your pipes are quite good for a beginner, but alternative materials and finishes will get you nowhere (been there.)

Somehow I don't think Ben Wades are going to bounce back to the crazy prices they were somewhere around 2000, so I won't worry much about value.

Paul is still at it. I know there is some work done to your design in case there are issues (stamps have its quirks) but I'm not aware of any CAD thing - I *think* they use simple drawing programs to refine the design. I think you shouldn't have any issue now.
