Re: pipe in the hat trade?

Gents, I'm horribly sorry - but I'm out. Still on a trip at work (damn these never ending global conflagrations). IF I've been paired already, I'll have one done in two weeks or so - I don't want to cheat anyone out of a PITH JKearns rhodesian! All of the pipes I've seen so far look wonderful... Wal...

Re: pipe in the hat trade?

I think I'm still in, but I'm having a heck of a time with some materials issues (or, more to the point - my lack of skill with said materials) and am very behind on some promised pipes... If it's okay, I'm a firm 'maybe' - hoping that I'll be done in time... if its not, and there needs to be a soli...

Re: Rhino blanks (polyester)

Both were Rhinos. On both occasions, I had drilled the slot and then gone to my disc sander to rough shape the button. While sanding I noticed a hairline crack. I think the first was Coal(?) (or something close to that - their black color) and the second was Moondust(?). On the second one, it was fo...

Re: Acorn "Colmillo"

That is a great looking pipe with a unique shape... I really like the choice of coloring, it seems to add to the shape (very earthy - in a good way).

Well done sir!

Re: Rhino blanks (polyester)

Okay... what an I doing wrong now? I was sanding the button down on my french wheel using 150 grit, and the stem cracked perpendicular to the button (running length wise along the middle of the stem). I was verrrrrry gentle, as this is the Second time this has occurred.

Thoughts?

Re: First reject of 2012

Damn nice looking pipe! So was the mortise drilled at a slight angle and therefore the tenon/stem is not angled? Can't tell from the photos what was wrong. It looks a lot like a Peterson I wanted for Christmas, except you're missing the "complete" dye job!

What type of band is it?

Re: Any fellow Texans near Dallas?

I'm in Plano, and would love to either help start a new pipe club or revive an existing one. I'm also interested in sharing pipe making techniques... and since I have no technique, I mean to say I'm interested in having you impart ANY knowledge to me! I've got a small shop in the garage and would lo...

Re: Rhino blanks (polyester)

At what speed do you turn/drill one of these? Also, for finishing, what grit do y'all recommend finishing with before buffing? Just ordered a few and can't wait to dig into them.

Thanks - John

Sandblasting in the DFW area?

Does anyone offer sandblasting services in the greater DFW area - or would rent out their set-up (with careful instruction and supervision!)?

Thanks much - John

I couldn't have said it better. The second pipe, on the bottom of the bowl - the birds-eye reminds me of a semi-precious stone. Really nice work sir.

Re: Second pipe - First Billiard Attempt

Sas - thanks! I have one combination rasp/file that I don't really use all that much. I was lucky enough to buy an older Jet 1014 for really cheap, and the owner was a retired salesman from Emerson (?) motors, who made the original Daytons before they bought from China. Anyway, boring story long, He...

Re: Second pipe - First Billiard Attempt

The biggest thing that sticks out is the length and shape of the stem. It looks like a cartoon character streched it like a rubber band. It abruptly tapers then kind of maintains that taper through the rest of the stem. That made me laugh, and you are exactly correct! Unfortunately, I have a few mo...

Wayne - that is a great looking pipe! One thing I noticed - actually I think Growley's keen eye caught it, I went back and looked - were the ridges on the top of the bowl, and I for one love it... The attention to detail is terrific. As for the .14 - man I sweat it going below .16 (but you know, THR...

I really like the rustication, I think the contrast works well. Very nice pipe! Also, I notice you're from Plano. I used to live in Houston and had to travel to that area weekly for work. Enjoy the cool because it's not going to last much longer :flame: . Farihope is about the same so no reprieve f...

Dozuki - SA! I haven't been there in a year or so, but I don't remember anything else in the sukhs besides cigarettes. Be safe over there, and lets see pics of that bulldog in action! Here's to no more deployments for awhile (for both of us)!
