Re: Trent Rudat Custom Chuck Jaws (http://briarpipetooling.com)
Mike, your tooling will be just fine. Rad actually has purchased and is using his chuck as you can see from his thoughtful and useful comment. In the interest of full disclosure, I own and use Trent's chuck. Tooling requires proper installation, alignment and, most importantly, use. If someone screw...

Sorry, I should have quoted. But I am impressed with Rad in any event.

Re: Simple Lathe Chuck
I am not critical of anyone or their opinion. I expressed my opinion as has everyone else. If I have offended anyone it was not intended. I do think we need to support those who are trying to help our hobby or profession with tooling as well as those who want to provide useful information for making...

Re: Simple Lathe Chuck
I wouldn't say anything bad about Trent's stuff, but I saw one of his chucks at Premal's and I think the chuck jaws Mark made are better. .... Jack Well, I think you just did. Before we start critiquing other's products, I think it is fair to say that most of us are NOT machinists, as is evident fr...

Re: Simple Lathe Chuck
Yep. Nice key! But Jeff might look more earthy with an eye patch. (pirate chuckle)
He needs another lathe that has been converted to variable speed with a frequency drive like mine, stops muey pronto also.
Love his work and, of course, Todd's.
Turn in peace,
Pharaohfitz

Re: Simple Lathe Chuck
Apologies to all for bringing up balance and safety for metal items spinning on a lathe.
I must have gotten dizzy trying to read where this thing was made while it was spinning at 12,000 rpm......
Spin your chucks in peace not pieces,

Re: Simple Lathe Chuck
Guys, while the concept looks nice, unless and until, the creation is "balanced" to your chuck, threaded or otherwise, you may not get concentric results - wobble or other vibration. If you have someone craft one for you, I would suggest that you send them your chuck to make sure it is bal...

briarpipetooling.com and Famous Danish Pipe Maker
I visited with Trent at the Chicago show and had been introduced to Teddy Knudsen by Tonni Nielsen a few minutes earlier. I later found Teddy checking out Trent's tooling at his table and he was very impressed with Trent's work. Teddy inquired about a chuck to be shipped to him, since Trent had sold...

Metal mordant to fix tannin dye
I noticed several folks mentioning bolts, nails, etc. . Dyes will need to be "fixed" by the vinegar mentioned (acid) and a mordant for the proper chemical reaction. Iron mordant will probably produce deeper browns or dark grays. Some may want to experiment with copper which may lend a gree...

Trent has a website also: http://www.briarpipetooling.com/ I visited his shop on the way back from the Kansas City show and he has a great set up to do anything with metal. He listens to what you need lets you know what he has or what he can make for you. While I was there he showed me a drill bit t...

Mimmo briar
I emailed Mimmo and asked for a price list which he sent in a few days. I placed an order with him and picked it up at Chicago. Mimmo wanted to go over each piece so that I understood the grading and was happy with the purchase. He will also ship to the US. The wood is fantastic and he has a wide va...

Trent's tooling
I met Trent at Chicago this spring but know several other makers who use and trust his tooling recently. I purchased a chuck and several bits and they are working fine. We chatted for about an hour and he has quite a few friends and customers in the community, several of whom I know and who recommen...
