Re: Tokutomi-Bo Nordh-Dublin Canadians Detail - Stem-Shank Faces
Mike: I just looked at your website. I'm very curious how you arrived at your prices. Have you been able to sell many pipes for $6500.00? Thanks for your reply, Scot.

Re: and now for something completely different ...
Is the "carburator" for blending air with the smoke? I assume that you have to cover the opening when you draw, why have the extra airway at all? Please explain.

Nice pipes. I have no objections to marijuana pipes being posted. I'm just curious, what is the purpose of the front stem?

The flavor of olive wood is the best thing about olive pipes.

Do you apply stain after the 500 grit sanding?

Re: Stain off the stummel looking for the cause.
I have never received reports of this - though I have heard of others who have had this problem. All I can tell you is that I never apply stain after 500 grit. And most of the time, never after 360. My goal is never to make an opaque and uniform stain color, only to highlight the grain. Also, if yo...

Re: chemistry
Don't know what happened to the link, here is the recipe: M. Konick, in the British Journal of Photography, suggests the following method of blackening wood, which has the advantage of resisting acids and alkalies: A Cuprice cloride, 75 parts Sodium chlorate, 67 parts Water, 1000 parts B Aniline hyd...

Has anyone tried this or a similar recipe for blackening wood? http://www.mugwumps.com/blacken.htm

Re: Striaght Billiard
Wayne, nice to see you posting pipes again. This one looks great. I agree, beveled rim is cool. The contrast and finish look excellent. I think it would be much easier to see against a white background. Is that a military mount? It would be nice if you could show a shot of the shank face and tenon.

I dig the chubby look. I agree that the stem taper should begin at the stem-shank juction and the button should be thinner. Nice pipe.

Both are very nice. I'd also like to see the 1006 stem from above. I like the nice crisp lines at the juncture.
Re: No. 19
One question, not to complain: Why did you round off the top of the bowl above the line This was not my original intent. I was chasing a flaw and came to this. I'm not dissatisfied with the round top. I'd say the stem is a little thick, and you could add a bit more curve/continue the shank curve by...
Re: 10-14
That's an interesting looking pipe. I'd be concerned about the close proximity of epoxy to the tobacco chamber. The epoxy may be effected by heat. The smoke must make a sharp bend, then it expands as it enters the large inside diameter of the shank. The smoke then must enter the small entrance of th...
No. 19
Finally found some time to make a pipe. Here is my 19th, cumberland stem with integral tenon. Please excuse the poor photography. I think I need to adjust my camera settings. The contrast is very low and the smooth parts have a dull grainy appearance. As always, I welcome all comments, criticisms an...

Re: finishing bamboo extension...
Usually the bamboo shank is joined to the stummmel with stainless tubing. The mortise end has a delrin sleeve which receives the stainless tenon of stem. I think the bamboo should remain in its natural state with an application of wax. If you search the forum you will find detailed instructions.

Re: carbon coating for bowls
I just crushed up a briquette and added water. I tried this with disasterous results. The smoke had a very powerful and unpleasant flavor. I had to scrape the coating from the pipe. I then purchased charcoal capsules from a pharmacy and used the buttermilk recipe described above. When I used the pu...

Re: TOMATO by CP
If I were making a pipe that I did not intend to clench, I would make the bit even smaller. The stem thickness could be reduced because there would be no worry about crushing. The width could also be lessened because stability would not be an issue. Although, there is no pipe that I don't clench at ...

Whatever you do, don't get one of these. It's utter crap: http://www.grizzly.com/products/Belt-Sa ... -30-/H3140 I use cheaper version of this, sold by Harbor Frieght for $29, to do just about everything. More power to you. I found that I could easily overpower it just by pressing a vulcanite...
