Re: looking for a couple of blocks of strawberry wood
I've been wondering the same thing myself. I came across this, and I know pacific madrone is also called strawberry wood. Like briar, its the burl you want. The thing I'm not sure about is the difference between european strawberry wood and american. https://www.gilmerwood.com/search_results.php?key...

Re: newest pipes.
I always try and get about 0.16" thick behind the button, ~0.28" tall, and ~0.08" on the button back to front. Consistency is one of the marks of a practiced stem maker. Find something that you think is comfy, and then get exactly right every time. Keep going with the classic shapes, ...

Re: Adapting an electric motor into a sander
I found a chuck that mounted to a shaft at home depot or Ace or something, and then went from there. You can find backers for fiber backed discs almost everywhere, and chuckable hook and loop pads in those same places. Fairly rudimentary set up, but it works well enough. The only issue comes from th...

A spring themed 55
I made this one yesterday. Not sure how I feel about the shape, so I took a risk with the stain. I would like to make a swap for this pipe. I'm running low on tobacco, and I thought it would be fun to exchange this pipe for $80-100, obo worth of tobacco. PM me if you're interested. http://i689.photo...

The blowfish is pretty fucking awesome. You should be proud.
Just a person preference, but I like the saddle flare to be closer to the shank face. I just feel like the pipe flows better, visually.
Kudos.

Re: Anyone buy from this guy?
I ordered 50 smaller ebachauns. They turned out a little smaller than I anticipated, but I think that was a function of my absentminded-ness rather than cutter error. The word is very, very dry, as sasquatch said. Smokes great. Every once in a while I would smell some mustiness, and I got one block ...

Some of you may already know this, but this just showed up in my twitter feed this morning.
It seems like lane is committing to keep everything exactly the same, but who knows.

Re: The 7th pipe I made, Long Shank Pot
stain it the same way as the rest of the pipe, then take a 500 or 600 grit sandpaper and lay it on something perfectly flat, like a granite counter top, etc. Then drag it across carefully, making sure all the shank face is contact. It will give it the same coloring as the rest of the pipe, and smoot...

Re: The 7th pipe I made, Long Shank Pot
It looks great! I'd go ahead and stain the shank face, then do a quick countersink to keep it from running into the mortise.
also, it would look a little more cohesive if you pinched the bowl/shank junction a little.
great work

its actually a brilliant solution. Its easy to see what you're doing, but I probably wouldn't have thought of doing it that way. kudos.

Re: 2nd chamber experiment
I've made several like this and have not been pleased with the results. The smoke tastes great, but the second chamber seems to get *really* moist. I actually made a pipe with a secondary and tertiary chamber (inspired by Revyagain's facebook) with clear acrylic, and the results were even more wet. ...

Re: No idea what to call it...(New Pipe)
I actually don't mind the stem shank junction at all. Its the stem itself that needs work. The lines are not straight or smooth, and the button looks like its lost some definition. Make sure to take your time with the files and sand up to at least 400 thoroughly so you don't have to over buff it. Th...
