packaging pipes for sale
I am wondering what are some good materials for making pipe bags to package my pipes In. I would really like to make leather bags or wooden boxes but both of those options are a bit pricey as 95% of my pipes sell for less than 100 dollar

Tim West sells some decent bags for about $4.50 apiece on his website. They aren't as nice as some of the other options, but they are well priced and look decent. You can also sew your own bags. I often make presentation boxes from cigar boxes and foam padding. They take a bit to make, but you can often buy the cigar boxes for a couple bucks from your local tobacconist. Sometimes you can even get them free. Use florist foam and cover the foam with faux velvet and they look pretty nice.

You can order bags for like $1 a piece that don't look too bad. http://www.softpouch.com/ is where I used to order them from. I think the "soft suede" is what I ordered, though it is actually a cloth not a leather.
In your price range, I think this bag should do fine.
Tims bags are pretty nice though and not priced terribly.

I buy fake suade from Hobby Lobby and sew my own. I usually get 10-12 bags out of a yard. The cord I use is $3 a roll and lasts quite. I think the fabric is $10 a yard
Am I Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley??...depends on the day.

I bought a suit fabric that I like and I sew them at home with a silk lining. for the time and money invested I could probably get some nice leather bags though.

Go on ebay and get some sunglasses bags. Most people don't really care how their pipe is packaged as long as it comes in some kind of sock to keep it safe in the box.

It's not hard to sew it yourself accurate to pipe dimension.Josh B. wrote:I would really like to make leather bags
I use soft sheep leather and vintage hand sew mashine. Modern inexpensive machines don't fit to sew leather, cut old ones do. Even 1.5mm in 4 layers. They have only one stitch type, but thats enough.
One bag takes about 30 min to sew. 4 bags at once - one hour.

I tried bullskin and pigskin. Bull is too rigid, pig has disagreeable smell.Charl wrote:Sheepskin?
Sheepskin is soft, doesn't smell.
My problem is bag marking. I have big brass mark, but can't find accurate way to stamp it. I tried electric iron, and it is effective enough, but burns the leather sometimes.

I have gone threw box's, cloth bags, leather bags, and now I use seal-able aluminum cylinder tins (large tea tins) to package, really helps to prevent shipping and transportation damage with simple padding around the pipe inside the tin, and the customers then have a tobacco tin he can use. I have had great response from using them. With the right supplier they are cheap as leather bags.

My wife makes mine. She can knock out like 10 in about a half hour. Black flannel and 550 cord for the drawstring. Never had one complaint.

Bondarev, try putting the leather piece in water. It has be completely wet. When still wet, stamp the leather, and hold the stamp down for 30 seconds or so. If the stamp is not deep enough, then hammer it in with a hammer
