Olive drying?

I was reading a post of Steve's about some Strawberry he's selling and said to wrap it in newspaper bc it was wet.

I was wondering if you guys thought putting the blocks in a tub of rice might work? I've heard of people (and I've personally done it myself) putting their cell phones in rice after they accidentally dropped them in a pool or something and had good success drying them that way.

Thoughts?

I bought a big bag of rice at Costco and have done that with briar. It works. I've also left it in the blast cabinet and that works as well.
Just put in either and wait a couple of months.
I've done likewise with stummels that seemed a bit moist after drilling.

What works better? Long grain or short grain rice?

Long grain for plateaux, short grain for crosscuts/ebauchons. Use brown rice for morta.

I know with regular green wood you want it to dry slowly or else it may crack as the wood releases moisture and changes shape too fast. Olive can split quite a bit when it is wet. Rice would be a no-no usually, you'd put it in a cool place, maybe wrap it up or seal the end grain. Is briar more robust?
