Hello guy's
I know this topic has been discussed much, but havent really found any answer by seaching the forum.
My problem is when i apply schellac to my sandblast i get some high shinning spots. I use a 2 cut shellack mix.
Maybe I am not good enough to apply an even layer of shellac? Du you guys have a trick to even out the shine?

High shine spots using shellac
Re: High shine spots using shellac
Thin it more, do more coats. Shine on shellac is directly related to how much there is on the surface. You can gently buff for even-ness too, but the basic process should leave the pipe pretty even.

Build up the shellac, as Sas said, don't try and put it all on at once with a thick coat.
Carnuba application is separate from shellac, and the process varies some. Sometimes I skip the carnuba altogether if the pipe is rusticated - depends on the pipe.

Yep. I do what Sas and Kurt do. Thin it down more and add coats until you're satisfied with the level of shine once it's dried. Not there yet? Add another coat.

That carnuba powder looks a right pain in the arse to do.

French polish technique to remove excess while the shellac is tacky still. It will even out on all the surfaces. Super thin solution. Dip a wad of cheese cloth that has a micro amount of oil on it and then squeeze out and rub thoroughly.

I find that applying the thinned shellac with a fingernail brush works well. I dip the brush in the shellac , tap it on a paper towel, then scrub it vigorously until it feels dry (one dip per application).
This gives a nice sheen, which I then follow up with powdered carnauba and a heat gun.
