My fifth pipe, completed. An attempt at a Poker.

Post by brownleafbeardsman »

Good day, everyone. Just wanted to show you guys my fifth pipe so far, a Poker!
This pipe was a joy to work on.
This is the first time that I have hand made an ebonite stem from rod stock. It was quite the shaping process.
I also drilled the airway at 5/32, tapered down using a fuller taper bit, and after the taper, I have hollowed out the mouth piece end with a V-taper for proper draw and airflow.
I used a different combination of fiebings leather dye on this one, I used mahogany as a base coat, sanded up, and buckskin as a final.
I had taken the tips that I had received from you guys to heart, and I only sanded this pipe with the stem on to get a flush transition from shank to stem.
I feel that the drilling on this pipe has come out better than my previous ones.
The pipe has several flaws, it doesn't balance on the sitting portion of it, it tips back a slight amount.
And, for a poker, I'm not too sure about the shape, and angle of the tobacco chamber walls.

I've included some standard pictures and also some close ups of the stem that I made.

Thank you for looking, and as always, any harsh critique or feedback of any kind is more than welcome.
