First... Pipe?

Post by BOBXXII »

I just finished my first pipe today. I was going for, well, something. I didn't have any final shape in mind, and a poker style bowl seemed like the easiest shape to make it.

The bowel is oak, and the stem is a china berry stick that I hollowed out with a bit of hot wire. The total work time was about 2 hours spread over a week.

I know this probably won't last long, but it doesn't have to. I started this project for fun, and just to see if I could make something that would smoke.

Not sure if it is worth your time to comment on this, seeing as it I am not going for art and perfection at this stage in the game. But I'd welcome any tips.

A pipe gives a wise man time to think and a fool something to stick in his mouth.

That's what's often referred to as a "camping pipe".

I have no idea if oak burns at too low a temp to be a suitable bowl, but there's only one way to find out, right?
