Bent Brandy XL

Post by wdteipen »

This one's been on my bench for quite some time now. I recently decided to finish it up. The shank extension is made of rosewood. I think this is my first attempt at this type of stem so I learned a lot. There are things that could have been done better but I'm interested in what you're thoughts are. All criticism requested and welcome.

Bowl shape and finish are beuatiful, rim beautiful, stem nicely cut and shaped...

The thing I find jarring on this pipe is the steep angle on the top of the shank, as opposed to the bottom, and as opposed to the stem. That area doesn't work for me because I can't find any harmony in those angles, and am left feeling that the stem is somehow either in the wrong place, or sitting at the wrong angle.

Perfect pipe.
Could be one of the very good Hedegaards.

Cheerio!

Beautiful pipe!

Im still learning to distinguish between the varying shapes. I would have thought this an Egg but apparently I would have been wrong. Would someone mind explaining what makes this a Brandy?

There's lots of blurry lines in pipe shapes, but my somewhat blurry understanding of this issue is that an egg proper is more oval in shape, thickest in the middle, and usually done with a bit of a pronounce heel on the bowl. The brandy is thicker near the bottom, and no heel. But like I say, that's just what I heard from a guy who knew a guy...

Beautiful and distinguished is the word describing this ripe shaped pipe .
By the looks i would assume that it lays in the hand like a good glass of cognac and also reminds me of by the coloration and grain .
