Looking for churchwarden

Post by Bshafer93 »

I am looking to get a churchwarden preferably below 100$. I wanted one fashioned after Gandalfs from Lord Of The Rings. ( I know how geeky that is). So far I have found

and

http://macqueenpipes.com/wizard.aspx

The Mcqueen Pipe takes up to 3 months to get, and I haven't heard the greatest reviews from them.

The luna pipes on the other hand I can get get in ash, all maple, or a maple stem and Briar bowl bet it gets pricey.

here are others im looking at

http://cgi.ebay.com/White-Wizard-Lord-C ... 3f0743a58d

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Savinelli-C ... 4cf56b6a94

Ive wanted to build my own, but my skill level is not high enough to do so.
Anyone have suggestions or previous experience with these pipes. I am also open to new pipes that are similar. I have also thought to see if anyone on this forum makes them.

Big Thanks,
Brent S

Personally I think the Savinelli appears to be the best. I just do not care for the way the others look.

If you wanted, you might find a bowl that you like and simply buy a churchwarden stem to put on it. PIMO and others sell them. You would have a little bit of stem work to do but it shouldnt be major. I have done this on several pipes myself.

Some clay pipes are very good, and smoke very well. Others are pure trash. I do not have any clays from that seller, so I really can't tell you anything useful about them. For $11, it might be a good experiment.

I will second the purchase of a Savinelli. I bought my basic churchwarden probably 4 years ago from cupojoes.com. It is not the prettiest pipe but it gets the job done. Here is a link to link to their selections.
