When is carnauba not carnauba?

Post by buistd »

Hi there - I have been looking at buying some more carnauba wax. The only bars I have seen for sale are a mix of beeswax and carnauba. Do pure carnauba bars exist or is the blend with beeswax the norm? If so, what percentage of carnauba in the blend is acceptable/desirable.

Hmm, have never seen carnauba mixed with beeswax. I always thought they had different uses, lubrication and shine.

Many stores sell them as well, Highland woodworking and woodcraft

Make sure to only get pure Carnuba wax. When you mix waxes, whether with oil or other waxes, it lowers the melting temperature and it will make it softer.

Tim West sells Pure Carnuba pucks, or you can buy it in flakes and melt and pour it into bars.

There's plenty of pure carnauba available. It should not have any other wax mixed in with it. And it is so hard it can only be applied with a buffing wheel.
