Here's some updated pics of the airstrip we built in our village. These are a couple months old so the grass has really taken on by now.
Until our slasher gets here from the States we have to cut the airstrip (all 600 meters!) with what's called "sarips." Needless to say we are all very much looking forward to the arrival of the slasher. Here's my wife doing her part to help out...

Yeah, my wife and I are missionaries here. We are working to translate the Bible to hope one day to be able to turn things over to the Hewa people...so not permanent, but we are here for the foreseeable future.

It looks to me like that pilot was milking the luxurious space of that airstrip a bit. It looks like he could have landed it in about half the distance.

I seriously think our strip could have been cut down to only 400 meters and still have been totally safe...at least for the smaller, one-engine planes. For PNG to be such an underdeveloped country it crazy how strict their aviation laws are.
