Paper Towel Test

Post by PremalChheda »

Hello Friends,

I would like to share a simple test that you may want to do before offering a pipe for sale. After you have finished a pipe, take a paper towel and rub the bowl vigorously. If stain comes off, you need to fix your finishing process. That color will stain someones hands when they smoke the pipe.

That's why I dip my pipes in Varathane a couple times before I sell 'em.

What about if you use shellac? Wouldn't that essentially cover the stain and prevent this.

Shellac alone will not pass the test.

Premal has vigorously rubbed my pipes. I think I passed the test?

Does carnauba wax not normally take care of this? Paste wax seems to work fine.

OBwayne: it was good for both of us. We both had a smoke afterwards. Lietaryworkshop: try your sealer of choice and finish with carnabua
