Re: Smoking?
Just finishing up yet another can of E. Hoffman Distinguished Gentleman, my steady early-morning choice. A nice, easy smoke, but not bland by any means. Just enough character for a mug of coffee and watching the sunlight creep in the shop windows. (I think it comes in smaller cans, for those who want to give it a try.)
Once again, I'm vaguely disappointed that there isn't a prize in the bottom of the can. Or a little trading card.* Or point coupons that could be sent in, like cereal box tops, for a special prize ("include a dime for shipping").
*but who would be featured on the cards?

A blend of homegrown. 60% Virginia Gold, 25% TN90 Burley, 15% Turkish Izmir. Smokes good in a cigarette also.

Re: Smoking?
Well it has been a year since the last post. I am smoking blue note by dan. After searching for the dan I think I prefer the sutliff blue note. I am using my whole rotation of manufactured cheap pipes.
Has anyone had a notable change since their last post?

Embarcadero. Alternates with Union Square. Two of GLP's four magnificent (if you've developed a taste for such) un-cased Red Virginias (along with Laurel Heights and Fillmore).
At the risk of offending people, I'd call them "Virginias for Grownups" (i.e., more dinner than dessert).

Re: Smoking?
Today I be smoking black briar. A black cavendish from my local B&M tobacco junction. She did tell me it's not her blend. Some are and some are not. I'm hoping for a similar taste to Boswells smokers choice. I should have bought that when I was there. I'll smoke it in a shop pipe.

Re: Smoking?
haha I posted about a year ago on this thread. Its crazy how far ive come in terms of pipes since then, ive increased my consumption from a bowl once a week to 2-4 bowls a day. not to mention my collection has significantly decreased in size but increased in quality.
as I type, its some Sam Gawith FVF from solomon_pipes (joe) in a beautiful pioneer straight ball meerschaum from ~60's

Re: Smoking?
first post: hello all!
I'm smoking a local in store blend called Bourbon Whiskey, never cared for it before, gives me a wicked bite...
but tonight I'm smoking it in the 3rd pipe I've made. the first two sit on a shelf, ugly and sad as hell. number 3? I like it. it's progress. it's still a mess, but it's going some where, you know? and tonight, the first real night that feels like spring in PDX, this night after my daughter's 5th birthday party, smoking this pipe THAT I MADE... I feel so proud. PROUD. and eager and excited.... and this blend tastes really good, tonight, in this pipe that I'm so stinking' proud of...

Re: Smoking?
In the past year, I have discovered HH AJ's VaPer, and it's become a favorite of mine. Usually smoke it in the morning. Perfect way to start the day.

2009 FVF in a month-old Ocelot55. Still experimenting to see what it likes best.

Simplicity by Sutliff in a Savinelli bent billiard. Good for dreaming up new pipe designs...

Embarcadero in an old Parker Straightgrain A billiard with an LL acrylic re-stem -- a perennial favorite combo. They've "been a contentedly monogamous item" since 2007.

Some Penzance in that bamboo thing I posted last week. At least it smokes good. Accompanied with some Pappy 15.
