So whats the over under on how many chunks of briar I go through? I already have the design I want to do, does it help if you draw it fourteen times before you try and make it?

"but rev, isn't smoking a sin?"
well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin
Hey all! Sorry I've been away for a few months. I've been trying my hand at growing my own tobacco but more on that in a different thread. I'll will make an attempt for this years PITH. Count me as tentative. I can't believe it's that time again already. I just started carving again after a 4 month hiatus so I'm not too sure I'm up to the task yet.

Aaron!!! Yay, your back! I've been wondering what happened to you. The pipe I got from you in last years PITH is a great little Latakia muncher for me. I'll never get rid of it as long as I puff.
I'm glad you're back and I hope you'll have enough time to participate this year!
Even though it'll be at least 2 months until I can source the cash for new acrylic rod, I've already started on the stummel. Seeing the size of my blocks it will be a small cavalier, but I'm giving it all she's got Captain!

I'd say yes. I think you'll have the highest rate of success if you draw your sketches then settle on one you like, choose a block that will suit that design, then draw it on the block. Usually when I get to that last step the design changes and then changes again and again as you work the block. In my case, the more I screw up, the more I have to figure out how to make my mistakes look intentional.

If you want it to be fair I could use an underwater hockey puck? Would contain some unhealthy lead though (they're made of 3lbs of lead with a rubber coating)
I'm in! I have been working a lot lately and have been lazy about ordering more materials. I guess this is the point where I stop making excuses and start making pipes again.
I only have one pipe under my belt but this seems to be a great way to get some experience. Please count me in and i will do my best to get it complete on time.
