Turning tenon by hand
Turned my first tenon by hand on the wood lathe. Nerve wracking to say the least, but she fits nicely!

Thanks guys.
Scottie, I used the easy start rougher with the following tip. This is where I get all my carbide tips for this tool.

Same tool I use. That's where I buy all my inserts. I haven't tried that one yet, but love all the others.mightysmurf8201 wrote:Thanks guys.

Re: Turning tenon by hand
OK, I finally figured this shit out.
Manny bought one of these, named it "Woodrow"---calls it "Wood" for short---and pushed the start button with a finger on his "hand":
You guys are so gullible.

Re: Turning tenon by hand
You've discovered my secret, George! Now everyone and their mother is going to be buying this machine and making "handcut tenons" for their hybrid/artisan/authentic pressed Mayan bog-briar pipes!
Re: Turning tenon by hand
That's how I used to cut my tenons before I got a metal lathe. Once you get used to it it's not all that bad. It just takes time and patience. Nice job Manny.
Re: Turning tenon by hand
Nice job, I don't do as well with my little lathe.
I am interested in your collet chuck, can you tell me about it?
Thanks, DocAitch

Looks like a standard ER32 collet chuck. They are commonly available.
ER system is very good for work holding if you are using non-standard material sizes. I have an ER40 chuck that I made for my lathe, superb bit of kit and worth every penny and more.

This here is what I have. Individual collets can be found on ebay or amazon for pretty cheap.DocAitch wrote:Nice job, I don't do as well with my little lathe.
