Desert Ironwood
Someone asked me today if Desert Ironwood would make a good pipe. I had to say I don't know. I've only ever made pens or knife handles from the stuff. I know it's hard and dense, but how does it taste? Anyone?

My Dad used to make bolo tie sliders out of it. As a kid I had a cheap knife that lost its plastic slabs so I made new ones out of some scraps around the shop. That was the first & last time I ever worked with the stuff, because the first time I sanded it, I quickly found that - like Rad - I was allergic to it. The wood was so beautiful that I persevered, but my eyes, nose, throat and hands itched for a few hours after I put it down. I'll never forget that smell.
