Sand Blasting and Stamping (What to protect stamp area)

Hey Guys, I was just wondering what you guys use to cover the stamp area when you sand blast a pipe? I've been using masking tape, but I have issues cutting it into an oval for the stamp area. Anyone know of a pre cut source for oval stickers to protect the stamp area? I've been using the the inside sticker part from stick on number 8's that we use for mail box lettering at work.

I don't bother with ovals, and use a circle craft punch to cut a circle of electrical tape. I typically use a double layer of tape. I got the circle punch in the scrapbooking section of the craft store.

I made a circle cutter from a 1/2" brass nipple I got at Ace. I just chucked it up and sharpened it on my lathe.
I use some thick rubber tape (3M 2242) I got at Lowes for the circle and three wrapped layers of regular black electrical tape for the smooth area at the end of the shank. The 2242's too thick to wrap with.

Great idea guys. Thanks a ton. I never thought of a craft punch! I need to use more of an oval because my stamp is a tad long at 3/4. But I have some ideas!

Believe it or not, specifically looking for a circle cutter to cut electrical tape.
I went there right after I visited the office supply store next door to it for some pencil parts. It's amazing the crap you can find uses for, other than the one intended by the manufacturer.

I'm having a heck of a time finding an oval stamp thats small enough. At a stamp of 3/4 a circle is a tad large.

Check the plumbing section at True Value or similar hardware store. Many of the brass pipe connectors are thin walled and can be bent into an oval. The end can also be sharpened rather easily.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried copper but its a little to soft.

Well I tired the brass fitting. It worked for a few times but the cutting edge bent over. I ended up just milling a piece of steel

If you're not happy with the piece of steel you milled you could always just get an oval drive punch--they are available in a variety of sizes for not too much money.
