finishing bamboo extension...

I have some bamboo and would like to finish it as follows: 1. bend it so as to make
a 1/4 + bend for churchwarden pipe. 2. finishing the surface.
3. I have to epoxy the tenon in the one end and mortise on the other end.

What are the best ways to accomplish the above? thanks!

Usually the bamboo shank is joined to the stummmel with stainless tubing. The mortise end has a delrin sleeve which receives the stainless tenon of stem. I think the bamboo should remain in its natural state with an application of wax. If you search the forum you will find detailed instructions.

Bending bamboo is tough. It typically can't be bent by steam bending like you do wood. The areas between the knuckles have a tendency to collapse - but I have managed it once before I knew it couldn't be done. I've had better luck bending long pieces with a torch. It works, but is real pain in the butt to do.
