I've been thinking of making a Hawkbill. I've got an idea on a variant that maybe you all could comment on.

I've been trying to design one, but, the result is too small for my liking. Would an egg work instead of a ball/tomato?

Sure why not? I mean if Radice can make a hawk-poker, surely you can make an egg and the world will not crack down the middle.
