This is a pipe commission I just finished today. It's a replica of an old Dunhill 2104. It's also the smallest pipe I've ever made. There's not much room for error on pipes this small. Can you tell which one is mine and which one is the Dunhill in the first picture?



I like this picture because the grain radiates from where I stamped it.

Shell briar on the bottom - you can tell because of the button and a very slight curve/bulge in your stem, but you did an excellent job re-creating that pipe, boyo.

PS Maybe sand that tobacco chamber, huh?

You can also tell the Teipen pipe because it actually has nice grain.

Thanks fellas. Another interesting point: mine actually sits upright on it's own. The Dunhill does not.

Before I scrolled down and saw the giveaway in the second picture I was thinking it must be the top one because it looks more refined. Great job!

Nice work, but I believe that there is an issue on the top of your shank.
Dunhill has a slight taper to the stem while yours has a "negative" taper to the stem.

Great job on the bottom and really nice grain.

I had the same idea as sas. The button on the dunhill gives it away along with the fact that the bowl lines look tighter and cleaner on Wayne's pipe. nice work!

You're probably seeing a reverse taper in the third picture because of the black next to the white in the background. It doesn't reverse taper. The fourth picture is a better represtentation of the shank taper. The Dunhill blast is less uniform on the shank and they didn't feather the blast up to the shank so there's an abrupt line there and the blast put a dip in the top of the shank line. If you drawn an imaginary line from the shank as it leaves the bowl and the shank where it meets the stem, you'll see that the Dunhill's shank doesn't taper near as much as that dip makes it appear.

Beautiful! Only immediately noticeable difference is the difference in stain. Also, the Dunhill looks a bit less refined than yours.

You definitely succeeded in mimicking the Dunhill.

Great job! It was easy to tell which was yours (the top one) because yours is the good one.

Oh, and the fact that yours will sell for about half what the Dunhill did. *Resists... Dunhill... rant...*
