Azobe or Lophira alata

Has anyone ever used Azobe for extensions?

I happened to get a log of azobe into my hands, and quite like the look it has. As far as I can find it's not toxic (even though I think it smells funny when sawing), but I'm not sure about the dimensional properties. It's incredibely tough, but I've heard it can crack while drying.
Would this be a problem in a stem extension considering the wood I have is fairly dry?

Does that work on wood as dense as Azobe? I mean, this stuff sinks and it doesn't soak up any water at all!
