130203 - Cutty (?)

I was attempting a cutty a while back and found a huge flaw in the shank. I decided to cut it off and try an extension. The extension here is deer antler. I turned down a delrin sleeve that runs the inside length of the antler. Please let me know what you think.

Thank you
Brandon

PS. I will try to post better pictures soon. I just couldn't get a decent picture of this pipe.

I think you did a good job on the bowl shaping, although it looks much more like a canted billiard than a cutty to me. It looks like the shank, antler extension, and the stem all fit very nice and flush with one another. The antler does look a bit out of place to me though. Partly because of the size difference between the shank and extension, I know you did mention that flaw in the shank, but partly because I dont think very long pieces of horn or antler work well as extensions. Try some bamboo next time if you can manage to get a hold of some. I think a piece of white bamboo, of equal length to the horn you used, would look smashing with the color of the stain and the cant of the bowl!

Thank you guys. I've got a few other ideas using antler but don't know that I have the technical ability to pull it off. Back to the lab...

I agree. Very cool idea. I don't think I've seen anything like that before. Nice job.

Sas I wish I could afford a decent camera. Right now I can't even afford pipe making supplies. Sucks!
