Why PIMO buffs but not Beall?
Why PIMO buffs but not Beall?
I'm looking to purchase my first buffing wheels and have a drill to spin them.
I called Beall to inquire about their wood buff kit and told them I have a corded 2-speed hand drill rather than a motor. They said their 8-inch system wouldn't work because the drill wouldn't have high enough RPMs. But PIMO alludes to the ability to use an arbor to connect their 6-inch buffs to a drill and there would be no problem.
I know others have used a drill so why did Beall not recommend their buffs? I'm slightly confused about which buffs to buy at this point.

The Beall buffs are better, and being larger, you will see a higher surface speed than on the PIMO buffs. This is simply a situation where one person wants to sell you something, and the other person has no idea what you are trying to do.

Re: Why PIMO buffs but not Beall?
I was in a similar situation. I ended up with some buffs from Pimo and few other cheap ones I picked up in town. The Beall system is clearly superior by contrast, you really are getting what you pay for, unfortunately for guys like us you'd also have to pay for another piece of machinery as well... What little I've done so far with the Pimo stuff has made me satisfied, especially for what I paid, but I would love to upgrade to a real motor and the beall system at some point down the road.
Besides the beall system being made to turn at higher speeds it is also set up for a completely different type of arbor and when I looked at it I didn't even see any way to possibly make it fit in my drill's chuck. That's probably another reason you were discourage from it because honestly just the turning speed itself isn't really the issue.

You can buy the Bealle buffs and drill-mountable arbors from pipemakers emporium.

There are great deals on buffing wheels and compounds on the Caswell Plating website. Also recommendations for the types of buffing wheels they offer. I am not affiliated with them, just a satisfied customer.

I'll +1 on the Bealle buffs. I love mine.

The Beall's are great. Mine are almost fully broken in and are serving me well, despite a tumultuous relationship at the beginning.

Yeah they look like they shed a LOT at the beginning. If I can get my hands on a motor I will definitely make the investment. I could put them to great use doing gun stocks too.
Sas, I don't see what you are talking about on pme. Maybe I just don't understand what I am looking at.

You're telling me that that kit comes with an arbor attachment that will fit a hand drill?
