I've heard back from Vincent Manil. Below are the details.

Pricing:

Fine Cut/Medium Cut/Thick Cut
100g (4oz) = $13.10
250g (10oz) = $32.74

Bouchons (box of 25) = $65.48

US import duty on pipe tobacco: $2.8311 per pound (source: http://www.ttb.gov/tax_audit/atftaxes.shtml)

By shipping through USPS, UPS, or FedEx, we can avoid paying duty tax. In order to do this, we will be splitting the whole order into three shipments, 2 boxes of pipe tobacco and 1 box of cigars (including bouchons). As a precaution, I'm still asking everyone for the $2.80 duty tax on pipe tobacco. If this works as it should and we are not charged the duty tax, I will return this fee.

The four of us ordering cigars will be splitting the cost of shipping them as well as the duty tax on small cigars ($50.33 for up to 1000 cigars). Everyone ordering pipe tobacco will split the cost of shipping for the other two boxes.

I've divvied up the conversion fee as well and we're nearing final costs. I'm still waiting for a few people to give me final order numbers. Once I receive those, I'll post a link to the google doc to this thread.

All funds will be transferred to me and I will transfer funds to Massis. He will be driving down in about two weeks to pick up the order. He will then ship to me and I will distribute the order here in the US.

I have received specific cut requests from two people so far (taharris [thin cut] and wmolaw [thick cut]). If you have a preference, please let me know asap. If I am not notified of a preference, you'll receive the medium cut which is what I'm ordering.

I'm down for something...at least 200g. Will have to see how the next week goes before I commit to a pound.

Hey guys,

It's been brought to my attention that this website isn't selling "real" Semois tobacco. Apparently due to the rarity, there are some fakes available and these guys carry them.

So based on this new information, I've reached out to a few other reputable dealers (aka the growers themselves) and will report back.

Also, I heard back from Vincent Manil. He is unable to ship overseas. I asked him if he uses any retailers in Belgium who can and we'll see what he says.

In light of this new information, would you guys prefer to wait or move forward with the order? I'll go with whatever the group prefers.

Here is the link to the retailer's website. Their product doesn't at all resembe any of the grower's packaging. This indicates to me that the suspicion of a false product is sound.

I say we wait for one of the growers to get back with us.

if you want real Semois, you need Vincent Manil's. He has the best Semois there is.

I might be of some assistance as I live in Belgium. If Vincent is reluctant to ship to the US, I can always act as a mailbox

If need be, I might make it a daytrip and go pick up the group order in the Semois Valley, it's only 2 hours away... If I can convince the wife that is. But if the weather is ok, that shouldn't be too much of a problem

Also, I know how to do the math in EUR to USD (and vice versa), know how to work with grams and kilograms and I speak French (like vincent Manil).


Manil's website isn't very elaborate, but contains some info.
For instance, these are the different sizes of tobacco pouches:
