Well been fiddling with this one for a friend of my wife. He didn't want to put too much in it, so I got some Grade 2 blocks from Vermont Freehand. Overall grain was cool, but had some pitting around the shank and bowl facing the shank. Something happened when I drilled the shank and the hole got a little out of round. That made fitting the stem a real pain. I made the fit a little tight to compensate for that and the pitting that appears to run inside slightly. The pipe, I was told, isn't going to be smoked. I thought about just starting over but needed it done by Christmas. I'm sure I can get some great constructive criticism. I apologize in advance that it's not a classic shape. As always thanks fer looking.

The biggest problem in my mind is the dip at the stem/shank junction. This can happen very easily because briar is softer than lucite and especially brass. The shank from bowl to the tip of the stem should be continuous. This is an issue of understanding your material, tools, and technique. The only solution is practice.

Thanks guys. Nothing gets past you here. Actually the transition was better before I screwed it up. I had everything done and the transition, at least to me, looked better. I stained the pipe, then heated my stem to bend it. While heating it the Loctite turned loose. As hard as I tried to get that brass washer perfectly back where it was, I missed the mark slightly. I'm learning and that was a lesson I won't forget soon I hope. Thanks fer the words of wisdom guys. I truly appreciate it. I almost didn't post anything on this one because I wasn't proud of the stem situation. But I know I can't get better without criticism. And I'm not going to get that from my wife. She thinks everything is great.

I would be happy to comment/critique on alot of pipes in the gallery, but without proper profile shots, we cannot really see the shape. 2 side views dead on, one top view and one bottom view is all that is needed.

Sorry, I thought I had got some side profile shots, but guess not. The pipe has already left my hands. I'll try to do better next time. Thanks fer looking though. Oh what does IAWP mean???
