clear delrin?

Hi,

I was wondering. Is there such a thing as clear delrin or does it only come in black? And if so, would anyone have any idea where to find it?

The reason I ask is that in some of the lighter colored lucite stem stock the black delrin tenon is visible through it once it gets thinned down a bit.

Re: Another Michigan Cherry Wood

the wood looks phenomenal. how'd did you cure it, or at least keep it from cracking? also, the bowl looks a bit plat on the bottom, which is something that i think is detrimental to burning all the tobacco well, i don't really know how it was cured in the first place. all i know was that it was cut...

Re: Another Michigan Cherry Wood

I'm not at all depressed with my attempt at "pipe craftsmanship", merely at the lack of responses that I had at the point of that post. :) As for the shape .. well, these are the images that I was looking at while making this one, both are listed as Pokers. Of course I wasn't trying to mak...

Another Michigan Cherry Wood

This one is what I think is a Poker in general shape, yet a Nose Warmer in general size. The wood is Michigan Cherry Wood, and the stem is "Wine" colored lucite. Comments are welcome and encouraged. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c227/mathias65/cherrywood_3_6.jpg http://i28.photobucket....

apple wood question

simply put, does apple wood have the same finishing problems that cherry wood has? i'm referring to the flat, matte, finish. i ask because i finally found what i think will be a workable piece of michigan apple wood and was just wondering what direction to take with a finish if i make a pipe out of ...

Re: problem with finished pipe

These days, on the rare occasion I make a cherry pipe, I leave it in the as-sanded state since even buffing with tripoli can have an undesirable effect - like loading up the pores with compound and making it look like it has freckels. as-sanded? no shellac? or wax? not even buffed? would you by cha...

Re: problem with finished pipe

ok, clearly i was mistaken in my impression of the use of shellac. i knew is was used to set the stain, but also thought it was used to achieve the deep, shinny finish. obviously i need to invest in the denatured alcohol to thin it out. how then is everyone getting that deep finish? specially when u...

Re: problem with finished pipe

The shellac used was "Zinsser: Bulls Eye Shellac, clear/transparant". The stain used was "Fiebing's Leather Dye". It was dyed once with mahogany, sanded, dyed again with orange, sanded. Then two coats of shellac not mixed with anything, with sanding between each coat and after th...

problem with finished pipe

i smoked my volcano pipe for the first time the other day. it smoked great. however, during the coarse of smoking it, the finished surface on the outside of the pipe went all rough on me and i literally had to bust out the 600 grit sandpaper afterwards to eliminate it (and probably the wax surface a...
